Awezmania's Awesome Adventure at Festival du Voyageur

(title by Shaira)

We made maple taffy.   We made it with snow and maple syrup. It was sweet and delicious.  It was really sticky. We learned about sap, syrup and what tools they used to get the sap out of the trees.  The sap in Maple trees is the sweetest.   It is so sweet that you don't have to add any sugar to it.  In Birch bark and Evergreen trees the sap is not that sweet.  You need 40 liters of sap to make 1 liter of syrup.  In the past, when Aboriginal people collected sap, they would only get 4 - 6 liters of sap a day, so it took longer to get enough for maple syrup.   - Melvin, Kaden, Emma, Nyla, Kayla, Savannah, Demitrius, Erika, Dante

We looked at snow sculptures.  There was one shaped like two big hands.  Different sculptures were created by different groups from different countries, provinces and territories.  There was a snow sculpture that was shaped like a gas station.  Another one was shaped like Bugs Bunny and a cowboy.  They carved them out of really big snow blocks. - Johnny, Joyce, Ella, Dante, Savannah

We made dolls and rainbow pompoms using yarn.  There were lots of bright colours of yarn.  We also made bracelets out of paper.  Some people made origami foxes.  - Alexa, Althea, Erika, Demitrius, Emma, Elijah

At the end of the day we went sledding. The sleds were long.  They could fit up to four people - but only two people were allowed.  There was a very big line and the hill was very steep. - Connor, Kaden, Tristan, Kayla

Ms. Nairn took a hundred pictures- check back to see them soon.
